Grufallo by Julia Donaldson

The story of the Grufallo dates all the way back to 1999. Playwright Donaldson, together with illustrator Axel Scheffler, tells the story of the Mouse, the story's main protagonist who is taking a walk through a European forrest.  Upon his journey the Mouse stumbles upon a series of dangerous animal characters ( a fox, an owl and a snake) who's only intention is to eat the Mouse. After dissuading each of the animals, by telling each of them that he is on his way to dine with "The Grufallo", and that the Grufallo's favourite food is the animal that Mouse has encountered.  Mocking each animals gullibility, Mouse then quips :

"Silly old fox/owl/snake, doesn't he know?

there's no such thing as a Gruffalo!"

The Grufallo has sold over 13 million copies worldwide and is a huge success becoming a classic children's story.
